Highclere Castle is the real-life Downton Abbey. It’s the home of the Earl and Countess of Carnarvon, and it opens to the public for around sixty to seventy days a year — usually in the summer and around school holidays.
Because the opening calendar is limited, this itinerary needs careful planning. I check the Highclere website against your cruise date before quoting, and pre-booking the timed-entry ticket is essential — they sell out weeks in advance during the summer.
What’s included
- Pickup from your cruise terminal
- Direct route to Highclere (about 90 minutes)
- Two to two and a half hours on site — house, gardens, and Egyptian Exhibition
- Return to the port with a cruise-safe buffer
- Premium-style itinerary: vehicle is fully ours for the day, no rush, no shared transport
Important: Highclere is closed on most days outside the summer season. If your cruise date doesn’t align, I can suggest equally rewarding alternatives — Winchester or Bath both work in the same time window.
